Not sure about teaching science? This program’s for you. A three-week paid summer training and practicum program designed to help CPS third grade teachers meaningfully integrate the Next Generation Science Standards in their own classrooms.
As part of the Boys & Girls Club summer camp, youth (ages 7-9) explore creative science and engineering challenges with fun teachers and real scientists. Youth attend science sessions three times a week plus participate in all sorts of other great activities at the club.
Scientists and engineers are incredibly curious people. They wonder about how things work and conduct experiments to learn more about the world. Once they figure things out, they use and share their knowledge to solve real world problems.
High quality science education should give students the same chance to explore their curiosity. Science Club Summer Camp helps teachers learn how to use student questions to drive learning and to integrate hands-on activities that help students find their own answers.
Participating in the Science Club Summer Camp program this year has definitely given me the confidence to teach science this upcoming year. Not only am I more familiar with the NGSS standards, but I’m also excited about the subject!Danielle RutkowskiCPS 3rd-grade Teacher
I learned that teachers shouldn’t feel that they always need to know the answers and even if you do know the answer, it’s all about the kids talking it out and questioning each other to make that discovery or draw a conclusion. Kids taking charge of their learning makes their learning authentic, real, and, hopefully, permanent.Eiby SawczwnkoCPS 3rd-grade Teacher
